Maine volunteer musicians closed out the 2009 season at the Countryfolk Music Theatre on route 2 in East Dixfield over Labor Day weekend. The Dick Curless Appreciation Weekend attracted 67 musicians from across the state and more than five-hundred dollars was raised for Countryfolk youth music scholarships.

Larry Bisbee, organizer of the weekly country music gatherings said, “We are very happy with the scholarship donations and want to thank all the volunteers who make it possible, those musicians who come each week and to all the folks that bring food for the weekly pot luck Sunday meals”.

Eight Dick Curless look-a-likes showed up and Jim “G” of Livermore Falls was judged the best. Bisbee gave an overview of Curless’s life at the beginning and Donald Dyer of Dexter gave a moving summation of Dick’s life as he knew him.

Bisbee went on to say, “ Overall it was a super summer and musicians have already said they will be back again next year. We’ll start up again on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend 2010.”. “ It’s been a great ten years”, he said. ‘And we’re already planning next year’s scholarship weekend, the last weekend in July” “ We hope to give another thousand dollars in youth music scholarships and send a couple of youth to music camp.
